Wings Over
Alma, a nature and regional art center is celebrating the
beauty of nature as seen through the eyes of 11 artists. The center
is presenting a new exhibit for the summer of 2008, entitled
"Lilies & Lotus" featuring the artwork of: Jean Accola, Jan
Brunkow, Ken De Waard, Russ Docken, Christine Foster, Carol Knabe,
Nadine Leo, Gary Moss, Jim Rataczak, Sherry Blanchard Stuart and
Larry Veeder. Guests will have the chance to meet the artists on
Thursday, July 10th from 5-8 pm at the Artists Reception. Enjoy
refreshments and live music by the Wabasha Woodwinds.
This exhibit features the native water lilies and lotus of
The Upper Mississippi Fish & Wildlife Refuge, as well as
the wide variety of the other lilies which so beautifully and
colorfully adorn many local gardens and parks. The artists offer a
wonderful variety of style, color and media. For Example: Jean
Accola's photograph American Lotus I, shot at close range and
greatly enlarged, borders on abstraction, while Larry Veeder's
Yellowstone Lily Pads brings the impressionistic style of Monet to
Alma.
Local daylily hybridizer, Nancy Olson, will be present at the
Artists Reception with a floral display and a digital portfolio of
her daylilies, including several special hybrids and some of her
most recent "babies".
