FALL COLOR UPDATE
As Of 10/11/2010

Status:           Past Peak

What can be better than beautiful fall colors on the river bluffs and views of the Mississippi River?  Most trees have passed their peak color but you can still see glorious single spots of orange, yellow and red.  Oak trees are just presenting their color and will be visible over the next few weeks.

Follow the Wisconsin Great River Road, Wisconsin Highway 35, along the western coast of Wisconsin and Buffalo County through our historic river towns of Nelson, Alma, Buffalo City, Cochrane and Fountain City.  Alma was voted one of the the "Best Small Scenic Towns in Wisconsin" and was designated a National Historic District in 1980.

The best scenic overlook is from Buena Vista Park.  Follow County Road E from Wisconsin Highway 35 in Alma to Buena Vista Park where there is plenty of fall color and 3 observation points overlooking Alma and the Mississippi River Valley 500 feet below.

Bird migration has begun, the American White Pelicans are arriving and Tundra Swans are expected in late October.

Traveling any of Buffalo County's roads will provide beautiful "back-road" experiences with valley vistas, dramatic bluffs, old churches and school houses and plenty of farm life and barns.  The road between the bluffs and the Mississippi River on Wisconsin Highway 35 will provide views of eagles, hawks, bluffs, fall color, the river and our small river towns.
